Creighton Verle Millard
September 9, 1924 - September 28, 2015Surrounded by his loving family, Creighton Verle Millard, age 91, died Monday morning, September 28, 2015, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The third son of Henry William Millard and Ella Leone Thompson, Creighton was born on September 9, 1924, in Moorhead, Iowa. On July 31, 1949, he married Beula Marie Perrin. They were blessed with two children, Darrel and Carolyn.
Creighton attended schools in Moorhead, Iowa, and in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux Rapids High School. He, proudly, served in the United States Army in the Admiralty Islands. For thirty-six years, he worked for the Kingan Meat Processing Plant, which later became Hygrade. In addition, he worked for the REA in Storm Lake and then later as a caretaker for the Storm Lake Cemetery.
Creighton valued the members of his family. He enjoyed taking them on vacations to the Black Hills, the Rocky Mountains, California, and Texas. During one memorable vacation, he took them on a working vacation to his uncle’s farm so the uncle and his family could get away while Creighton and his family enjoyed farm life.
Creighton enjoyed gardening and worked in his garden well into his 80s. A card playing enthusiast, he taught his children and grandchildren many games. Though his grandchildren did not live near, he kept them for extended vacations every summer helping them build fond memories. In later years, Creighton and Beula traveled to visit family, and their vacations with family included trips to Washington, D. C., Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, and Wisconsin. In addition, they went on cruises together. Creighton, even, traveled to Barcelona, Spain, when he was 85 years old.
Creighton belonged to the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. A regular blood donor, he earned several pins, one for each time he donated a gallon. Known for his quick and genuine smile and warm gentle nature, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Loren and Marreld Millard; his sisters-in-law, Norma and Donna Millard, Darlene Carbaugh, and Lila Perrin; his brothers-in-law, Dwight Archer and Alfred Carbaugh; and his great nephew, Jacob Allen Bull.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Beula Millard; his children, Darrel (Virginia) Millard, of Voluntown, Connecticut, and Carolyn Millard, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Andrew (Danielle) Millard, Angela (Christopher) Chabot, and Bryan (Corbin) and Jason Orlenko; and his great grandchildren, Alexandra and Jackson Chabot, Annaclaire Millard, and Corinne Orlenko; as well as many nieces and nephews.
