Arnold A. Mohn
November 6, 1917 - July 23, 2015Arnold Adolph Herman Mohn was born on November 6, 1917, to Claus and Margaret (Hahnkampt) Mohn at Holstein, Iowa. After the death of his parents, he lived with cousins, Henry and Wilhelmina Nelson, of Aurelia. He attended country school. From March 27, 1941, until his discharge on September 27, 1945, he served in the US Army. Before he married, he farmed for his brother, Eitel.
On February 20, 1949, Arnold married Arlene Margaret Dittmer at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia. They farmed in the Good Hope area before moving into Aurelia in the fall of 1979. Arlene died on June 26, 1983. In August of 1985, he married Lamerne (Schulke) Weiland. She died in January of 2012. In December of 2012, he moved to WelCov in Alta.
A member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia, and a Yankees fan, Arnold, also, enjoyed collecting pens and pencils, watching horse races, especially the Kentucky Derby, playing 500, and attending antique farm auctions, and of course, his military reunions. A devoted and loving husband and father, he, also, read the Bible faithfully.
Arnold died on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. Those preceding him in death include his parents; his foster parents; his two wives; his five sisters: Louise, Ella, Elfrieda, Erma, and Edna; and his three brothers: Herbert, William, and Eitel.
Survivors include his children, Margaret, and her husband, Leo Eminger, of Maumelle, Arkansas, Joyce, and her husband, Gordon Sievers, of Slater, Iowa, Brian, and his wife, Sandy Mohn, of Aurelia, and Kristine Mohn, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two step-children: Dale, and his wife, Jackie Weiland, of Tama, Iowa, and Doug, and his wife, Judy Weiland, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one brother-in-law, Robert Dittmer, of Holstein, and two sisters-in-law: Lauretta Skarin, of Wall Lake, and Jane, and her husband, Ron Nielsen, of Ida Grove, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for Arnold Mohn, 97, of Alta, formerly of Aurelia, will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 27, 2015, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Revs. Larry Lemke and Michael Standfest officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia, with military honors by the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., with the family present at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
