Phillip William Weitzel, a son of Albert and Mae (Kolbe) Weitzel, was born on August 5, 1937, in Early, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Early, he attended grade school at Century School, Clinton Township #3. In 1955, he graduated from Early High School.

On February 25, 1995, Phil married Carla Beem at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell.

Phil spent his life farming. He loved the outdoors. Until this spring, he, especially, liked walking his yard to make sure no dandelions were growing up on it. Most of all, however, Phil loved his children and grandchildren. He, always, wanted to know where they were and what they were doing. His cat, Sam, also held a special place in his heart. Sam was treated like a baby, even during Phil’s hospital stay. Phil will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carla Jean Weitzel, of Newell, Iowa; his children,: Mylynn (Wade) Hanson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rhonda (Don) Crandall, of Chandler, Arizona; his step-children: Jeff Kingery, of Newell, Iowa, Amy Gray, of Lake City, Iowa, Jennifer Kingery (Jerry Ackerman), of Lytton, Iowa, and Ryan Kingery, of Paynesville, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Shelby Kingery; Sophie Jean; J.J.
