Doris Lorene Inman
April 7, 1921 - April 10, 2015

Doris Inman, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

The oldest child of John and Ethel (Johnson) Sundberg, Doris Lorene was born on April 7, 1921, in Linn Grove Iowa. Having grown up and attended school in Linn Grove, she graduated from Linn Grove High School.

Then, she attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for one year before marrying Richard (Dick) Inman on the family farm in Linn Grove in June of 1939. While they resided in Storm Lake, they had two sons, James, in 1940, and David, in 1943. Next, the family moved to Monterey, California, while Dick was serving in the Navy during the last two years of World War II. After his discharge, they moved back to Iowa, making their home in Storm Lake. Dick joined his father in the family business, Inman Electric, and Doris became a homemaker.

Over the years, Doris served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Band Mother. She, also, actively participated in the Storm Lake Presbyterian Church, the Questers, and the women's Bridge Club. In addition, she loved gardening and entertaining in her beautiful home on Lake Ave.

In 1963, her granddaughter, Stephanie, was born. Doris loved spending time with her little granddaughter, taking her to the many parks in Storm Lake and watching her play. Because she, always, made sure that Stephanie came to visit every year during the summer and Christmas vacations, the two remained close.

Over the years, Doris also enjoyed traveling to many places with her husband. They would spend time in their family home in St. Petersburg, Florida, and travel to Colorado often during the summer. Moreover, they enjoyed spending time in their Winnebago with their many couple friends including her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Arnie Hicks, picnicking, camping, and fishing. A wonderful cook as well, she enjoyed having family holiday dinners. She made the best homemade pies!

Doris lived a very full and active life before her husband passed away in 2006 and she developed Alzheimer's disease. Soon after, the family home was sold, and Doris lived in Wel Life Assisted Living in Alta, Iowa, for six years before her granddaughter, Stephanie, brought her to a specialty Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Facility, Windsor Manor, in Shenandoah, Iowa, in of May 2014. Doris enjoyed the activities, the staff, and the companionship of the other nine residents there, and she seemed to feel safe and more peaceful until she fell and broke her leg on March 10, 2015, requiring surgery.

Preceding her in death were her parents and Richard, her husband of sixty-seven years. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jim, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Dave, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her granddaughter, Stephanie Osborn, and her husband, Curtis, of Shenandoah, Iowa; her great granddaughter, Ali Burchett, of Lenexa, Kansas; her great grandsons, Mitchell Steinkuehler, of Maryville, Missouri, and Andrew Johnson, of Shenandoah, Iowa; her brother, John, and his wife, Margaret Sundberg, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and her sister, Donna, and her husband, Arnie Hicks, of Linn Grove, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, April 16, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until the beginning of the service at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
