Bruce D. Johnson, age 62, of Alta, passed away to join the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at his residence in Alta.
Bruce Donald Johnson was born on September 13, 1952, to Ruth (Schwiesow) and Donald Dean Johnson in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Coon Rapids, Iowa, where he attended Coon Rapids Elementary and High School. After graduating, he attended Maryville University in Maryville, Missouri, until he was drafted by the United States Army and served two years in Germany. Upon returning home, he worked for his father in construction.
In 1976, he married the love of his life, Peggy Sue Carpenter. They had three children, Timothy David, Jodi Lynn, and Jennifer Sue. He began a forty-year career serving the public, starting at the Coon Rapids Municipality Utilities and ending at the Alta Municipality Utilities. Strong in spirit and ethic, Bruce was working up until the very last days.
Bruce was diagnosed with gastro-esophagus cancer in 2012. After an initial surgical treatment, he was given a clean bill of health until December, 2014, when cancer returned.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bryan; his father-in-law, Gary Carpenter; and his brother-in-law, Edwin Testroet.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; three children, Tim (Heather) Johnson, Jodi Johnson (Brian Louwsma) and Jennifer (James) Livingston; six grandchildren, Collin, Adan, Garrett, Blayke, Autumn, and Taron; and a sister, Debbera Testroet; as well as many other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Aurelia with the Rev. Bruce Rapp and Dr. Robert Stout officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Alta VFW Post #6172 at the church immediately following the funeral service. Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 4:00 PM at the Orange Township Cemetery of Coon Rapids. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
