Marjorie Clough
April 30, 1929 - December 5, 2014Marjorie Clough, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, December 5, 2014, in Storm Lake.
A daughter of Pearle and Harold Kaufman, Marjorie Clough was born at her parents' home at 714 Geneseo Street, Storm Lake, Iowa, on April 30, 1929.
She received her elementary education at North School and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1946. After completing high school, she was hired immediately by the White and White Law Firm as their legal secretary. Later, she moved to Des Moines to become a stenographer for the Internal Revenue Service.
Marj and Roy Clough met on the dance floor, and they continued dancing together for sixty-two years. They married at the Storm Lake Methodist Church on May 1, 1949. Subsequently, they were blessed with three wonderful children--Candy, Kelly, and Kerry. In addition, they spent several years as foster parents to children from troubled homes.
Marj had many talents and shared them eagerly with family and friends. She designed and made clothes for herself and her family. She knitted, cooked, baked, quilted, cut hair, wallpapered, wrote original humorous odes, and loved gardening and home canning. She took great pride in their homes.
Marj enjoyed traveling to all fifty states and made many trips to foreign countries with Roy. They spent twelve wonderful winters in Casa Grande, Arizona, where they met many friends and enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
Marj was proudest of designing and building a memorial park on Main Street in Storm Lake to honor the memory or their daughter, Kerry Jan, and also Roy's parents, Clarence and Ethel Clough, who founded Clough Auto Parts in Storm Lake in 1930. A tireless volunteer at Santa's Castle; Faith, Hope, and Charity; and Meals on Wheels; Marj, also, served as the PTA President, a Girl Scout leader, and the Kiwanis Queen President.
Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her daughter, Kerry; her brother, Jack Kaufman; her parents, Harold and Pearle Kaufman; and her grandparents, Clara and Frank Kaufman and Orlando and Dora Goff, all of Storm Lake.
She is survived by her daughter, Candy Clough, of Storm Lake; her son, Kelly Clough, and his wife, Connie, of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren, Joel Fitzpatrick, and his wife, Jenny; Kate Fitzpatrick Biede, and her husband, Peter; Chris Clough and Kate Lyon; and Cole Petersen; and three great-grandchildren, Piper and Flynn Fitzpatrick and Aria Biede; as well as by thirteen nieces and nephews; and many friends.
