Charles Barlow, age 82, of Schaller, Iowa, died on Monday, December 8, 2014, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Charles Wayne Barlow was born on August 2, 1932, in rural Storm Lake, Iowa, a son of William and Anna (Merten) Barlow. Baptized into the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, he attended grade school through third grade in Truesdale and then a Sac County country school. In 1950, he graduated from Schaller High School.

On January 14, 1953, Chuck was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1954.

On August 11, 1960, Chuck married Patricia Caton at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Michael and Susan.

A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, Chuck served as president of the congregation, trustee, and also elder. A member of the Schaller VFW and the Farm Bureau, he, also, served on the Schaller Co-op elevator board.

Chuck liked woodworking, watching Westerns, and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. In addition, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He, also, took pride in teasing his Iowa State University friends. He loved his family and treasured spending time with them. He will, certainly, be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cecil Barlow; his sister, Betty Frank; and his brothers-in-law, Dick Frank and Harry Gilson.
