Nancy Jean Johnson
September 6, 1939 - August 8, 2014

Nancy J. Johnson, age 74, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Nancy Jean Elg was born on September 6, 1939, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, a daughter of Ray and Alyce (Gustafson) Elg. She grew up in Harcourt, Iowa, graduating from Harcourt High School in 1957. On September 13, 1958, she married Delwyn Johnson at the Methodist Church in Harcourt. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Debra and Scott.

Nancy and Del made their home in Albert City. There, she began working at the Albert City-Truesdale School first as a secretary and then as a school cook for thirty years. A long-time member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, she served on the Ladies Aid Committee as well.

In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed doing handiwork which included knitting, crocheting, and embroidering. Many people will remember her as a talented cook who made wonderful Swedish dishes. She also enjoyed spending time with her husband at their cabin at Lost Island Lake, near Ruthven, Iowa. Most of all, however, she cherished the time she spent with all of her family, especially those occasions when she attended her grandchildren’s activities and events. Remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Del Johnson, of Albert City, Iowa; her children, Deb Johnson, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Scott (Deanna) Johnson, of Albert City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Cassi (Adam) Skog, and their daughter, McKinley, of Albert City, Iowa, Andy (special friend, Brynn) Johnson, of Mallard, Iowa, and Evan (special friend, Callie) Johnson, of Mallard, Iowa; and Stacy Sime, a special family friend; as well as extended family members and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 12, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City.
