July 1, 1932 - September 20, 2014

Glenn Johnson, age 82, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and formerly of Galva, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his home in Sioux Rapids.

Glenn Robert Johnson was born on July 1, 1932, in Ida County, Iowa, a son of August and Anna (Anderson) Johnson. Baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, he attended school in Schaller, Iowa, graduating from Schaller High School in 1950.

In 1952, Glenn joined the United States Army. Stationed in England until he was honorably discharged in December of 1954, he proudly served his country.

On February 10, 1957, Glenn married Audrey M. Hustedt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Janna, Larry, LaDon, Delayne, and David. After Audrey’s passing in 1980, Glenn married Janet Herrig on May 8, 1998, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva.

Glenn was a member of the Galva American Legion and the Sioux Rapids Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of the Missouri Lutheran Synod in Schaller, Galva, and Sioux Rapids.

A grain and livestock farmer, Glenn loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren's activities and events, golfing, and traveling. Moreover, he liked having morning coffee with his fellow farmers in Galva. His wonderful smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet Johnson, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his children: Janna (Greg) Brandt, of Moville, Iowa, Larry (Rhonda) Johnson, of Galva, Iowa, LaDon (Sonya) Johnson, of Seattle, Washington, Delayne (Anne) Johnson, of Galva, Iowa, and David (Lora) Johnson, of Schuyler, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren: Ashley (Scott) Albers; Justin (Heidi) and Marissa Brandt; Collin (fiancée, Kily Meyers), Corbin, Dillon, Evan (Jodi), Foster, Logan, Mason, Nathan (Kate), and Seth Johnson; and Rebecca (Bernie) Thomas; eleven great-grandchildren; his step-children: Tom (Susan) Herrig, and their children: Tyler, Courtney, and Sydney, of Webb, Iowa; Todd (Tanya) Herrig, and their children: Bailey, Presley, and Trey, of Peterson, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Audrey; his great-grandson, Adam Brandt; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Oliver (Hazel), Gustav (Ruth), Arvid, and Lavern (Thelma) Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa. Burial will be in the Galva East Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
