April 22, 1926 - May 31, 2014Dorothy Weitzel, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Dorothy Jean Irwin was born on April 22, 1926, in Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Irene (Johnson) Irwin. Growing up, she attended school in Sac City, graduating from Sac City High School in 1944. Next, she attended Mrs. Brown’s School in Milwaukee before coming back to Storm Lake to work.
On April 3, 1949, Dorothy married Melvin Henry Weitzel in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with two daughters, Joy and Susan.
A member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Dorothy also was a past member of the Business and Professional Women and a BPW woman of the year in 1999.
The family historian, Dorothy valued her family and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. In her spare time, she loved to travel and put together scrapbooks and photo albums. She had a passion for playing cards and visiting shut-ins and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Joy (Matt) Boyer, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Susan (Mike) Trus, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her grandchildren: Mike Trus, Jr., of Newburgh, New York, and Tyler Trus, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; her sister, Norma Arnold, of Littleton, Colorado; and her sisters-in-law, Kathryn Irwin and Dorothy Jarvis, both of Sac City, Iowa, and Elaine (Charles) Goodman, of Alta, Iowa; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Weitzel; her parents, Robert and Irene Irwin; and one brother, Maurice Irwin.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., June 07, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., June 06, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
