August 1, 1939 - June 23, 2014Ruth "Irene" Wilson, age 74, of Newell, Iowa, died on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Ruth Irene Rice Rogers Wilson was born on August 1, 1939, in Osceola, Iowa. But her life truly began when Orville and Margaret Rogers adopted her on December 28, 1947, welcoming and accepting her into the Newell community.
Baptized and confirmed in the First Congregational Church of Newell, Irene would eventually teach Sunday school there, serve as a deaconess and Sunday school superintendent, and join the Women's Guild. Her unwavering faith and strong belief in God carried her throughout her life.
In high school, she participated in various activities, but she liked basketball the most. After graduating from Newell-Providence High School in 1957, she continued to keep up her strong friendships with several of her classmates. They cherished her as a true friend and confidant.
Irene married the love of her life, Dale Wilson, on December 31, 1957. God blessed this union with three daughters: Lorelei Ann, Linda Lou, and Julie Jean.
A talented seamstress, Irene enjoyed making countless dresses and outfits for her girls. An avid reader, she developed a passion for collecting cookbooks. Always up for a game of cribbage, dice, or other card or board game, as well as an occasional trip to a casino, she enjoyed life, especially time spent with her family and friends.
A stay-at-home mom for her young children, Irene would eventually venture into the work force at Nobles in Sac City, Iowa, and the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Dale and Irene enjoyed their homes and friends in Newell and East Okoboji, Iowa, and Casa Grande, Arizona, where they wintered the last twenty-three years.
Irene entered God's Kingdom of Glory on June 23, 2014, following a lengthy illness that only confirmed her strong and fierce will to live.
A loyal and loving wife, mom, and grandma, Irene is survived by her husband, Dale, of Newell, Iowa; her daughters, Lori (Tim) Johnson, of Hartford, South Dakota, Linda (Dave) Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Julie Wilson (Pat Sutter) of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren: Devin Miller, Justin Johnson, Maleia Miller, Aaron Johnson (fiancé Aly Rogers), and Staci Johnson.
Preceding Irene in death were her parents, Orville and Margaret Rogers; her grandmother, Loula Spencer; her in-laws, Emery and Verna Wilson; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Waggie.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. There will be a private funeral and burial. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
