Lydia Rodriguez, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died at her home in Storm Lake.
Lydia Rodriguez was born on August 3, 1933, in Durango, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Candido De La Torre and Jacinta Rodriguez. She married Eleuterio Rios in Antonio Amaro, Durango. They were blessed with eleven children: Roberto Rios, Silvia Rios, Victor Manuel Rios, Lucila Rios, Eleuterio Rios, Lidia Rios, Gerardo Rios, Jorge Rios, Laura Maria Rios, Juan Carlos Rios, and Laura Rios.
Lydia enjoyed cooking, knitting, embroidering, crocheting, and doing picture puzzles. She loved keeping and caring for birds. At one time, she had over eighty species. She also liked plants.
A very friendly, social person, she loved helping people. She was everyone’s grandma. A devoted wife and mother, she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Eleuterio Rios, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Eleuterio, Laura, Gerardo, and Juan, all of Storm Lake, Iowa, Silvia and Jorge, of Los Angeles, California, Lidia, Lucila, and Victor, of Lerdo, Durango, Mexico, and Roberto, of Odessa, Texas; her grandchildren: Guadalupe, Roberto, Alejandro, Juan Jose, Luis Rafael, Lydia, Victor, Silvia, Mario, Guadalupe, Adriana, Jorge, Francisco, Edith, Fernando, Noel, Beto, Christopher, Abraham, Hugo Horacio, Luis Alejandro, Jose, Gerardo, Jr., Sandra, Luis, David, Jesus, Laura, Roberto, Emily, Hugo, Eduardo, Juan Carlos, Jr, Alonso, Jose, and Edwin; fifty great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Jose De La Torre, of San Jose, California, and Hilario Cruz, of Alamo, Texas; and her sister, Josefina De La Torre, of El Monte, California; as well as extended family and friends.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Laura Maria; and her brother, Jorge De La Torre.
Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., August 08, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
