Delores M. McGowan, age 86, of Alta, passed away on Friday, August 09, 2013, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center of Aurelia.
Delores Maxine Henriksen McGowan was born on July 13, 1927, in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Opal (Lauridsen) Henriksen. She graduated from Alta High School in May, 1944. On December 19, 1953, she married Merlin McGowan in Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Linda, Bruce, and Julie.
In her younger days, she was the bookkeeper at Peterson's in Alta. She, then, spent her life loving and caring for her family. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her grand children and great-grandchildren, gardening, especially flowers, traveling, watching movies, reading, and experiencing the outdoors.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Merlin McGowan, of Alta; her three children: Linda (Tom) French and Bruce (Deanna) McGowan, of Alta, and Julie (Paul) Movall, of Rochester, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Jerry (Shawn) French, of Johns Creek, Georgia, Michelle (Todd) Mackey, of Ankeny, Iowa, Jill (Brian) Jackson, of Alta, Todd (Erica) McGowan, of Waukee, Iowa, Kristy (Scott) Brown, of Valencia, California, Michael Movall, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kelsey McGowan, of Alta, and Brandon Movall and Ryan Movall of Rochester, Minnesota; thirteen great-grandchildren Davis, Taylor, Austin, and Carter French, of Johns Creek, Georgia, Mackenzie and Carson Mackey, of Ankeny, Iowa, Brooke, Braden, and Brittany Jackson, of Alta, Mason and Maxwell McGowan, of Waukee, Iowa, and Kinley and Easton Brown, of Valencia, California, as well as many other friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private family funeral service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013, at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta with the Rev. Terry W. Pollard officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
