Surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer, Lael W. Loving, age 79, of Albert City, Iowa, died peacefully on August 7, 2013, at the home in which he had been born.

Lael Wilbur Loving, the son of Joseph and Helen (Carlson) Loving, was born on December 3, 1933, on a farm near Albert City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City, he attended school in Albert City, graduating from the Albert City High School in 1951.

In 1953, Lael enlisted in the United States Air Force and was sent to the Arctic as a Drop Master on a C-119 Flying Boxcar. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1955, he finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.

On August 30, 1958, Lael married Paulette Beckwith from Storm Lake, Iowa. They moved to the farm where Lael, a dedicated farmer, became a devoted father to their four children: Daniel, Mary Beth, Brett, and Donald.

Lael was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City and the American Legion. He greatly valued his family and enjoyed their family vacations to Canada. He had many special interests including fishing, tending his flowers, taking care of his lawn, and traveling.

Lael is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Paulette, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Daniel (Melissa) Loving, of Webb, Iowa, Mary Loving, of Temple, Texas, Brett Loving, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Donald (Renae) Loving, of Albert City, Iowa; his cherished grandchildren: Gustin and Maggie Loving, of Webb, Iowa, and Tristan and Alexandra Loving, of Albert City, Iowa; two sisters, Adelaide Bersbach, of College Park, Maryland, and LaVonne Hoffman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his brother, Byron (Barbara) Loving, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, Ronald.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
