Kurt Kruse, age 49, of Newell, Iowa, died on July 15, 2013, in rural Newell.
Kurtis Kruse was born on July 5, 1964, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Donna Palmer and Harlan Kruse. Baptized at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, he attended school at Grundy Center where he earned his GED.
On August 14, 1993, Kurt married Jennifer Dee Vanderhoff in Newell. In 2002, they made their home in Newell with their children, Chelsee Adele and Reed Kurtis.
Kurt enjoyed being outdoors, a love that he shared with his son, Reed. In every season, he found a reason to go hunting or fishing. By supper time, he had always worked up an appetite and enjoyed throwing something on the grill.
Kurt took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments. He loved watching them grow, developing into the people they have become today. A loyal, hard worker, he always put forward his best effort with whatever job he had. His children will certainly benefit from his positive example. At the end of the day, he left a strong message that happiness does not come from always having the finest and best of everything. Those who knew Kurt can say he had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that will remain in the hearts of his many family members and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two children: Chelsee and Reed and their mom, Jennifer, of Fonda, Iowa; his mother, Donna Palmer, of Grundy Center, and Donny Palmer, of Reinbeck, Iowa; his brother, Kyle (Kelly) Kruse, of Holland, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Jason (Michele) Vanderhoff, of Newell, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Jodi (Alex) Rojas, of Fonda, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Diane (Jim) Sorbe, of Albert City, Iowa; his father-in-law, James Vanderhoff, of Linn Grove, Iowa; and his nieces and nephews: Britini, Trevor, Kassie, Jaron, Jaicee, Maggie, R. J., and A. J; as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Kurt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Mary Wical; his father, Harlan Kruse; his sister, Pam Billerbeck; and his step mother-in-law, Kate Vanderhoff.
Visitation: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 1:30 pm at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.
