June 15, 1923 - July 18, 2013Helen Kinkade, age 90, of Albert City, Iowa, died on July 18, 2013, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Helen F. Schau was born on June 15, 1923, to Titus A. and Minnie (Pieper) Schau in Correll, Big Stone County, Minnesota. Because of her father’s untimely death, the family moved to a farm south of Battle Creek, Iowa, when she was one year old.
Helen attended school and grew up in that area. After graduating in 1941, she married Melvin (Bud) Kinkade on November 12, 1942. To this union, their son, Norman, was born. For five seasons, Melvin worked in Alaska in construction before his family joined him for three more seasons from 1949 to 1951. He and Helen started farming in 1952. Helen lived on the family farm until 1998 when she moved to her house in Albert City.
A member of the Varina, Iowa, United Methodist Church and the Varina United Methodist Women, Helen served in various offices. She was also a member of a neighborhood Thursday Apron Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Norman (Donna) Kinkade, of Albert City; her granddaughters, Michelle (Eric) Krogulski and Lisa (Monte) Wyatt, both of West Des Moines, and her grandson, Brian (Kari) Kinkade of Albert City; and nine great-grandchildren: Jenna and Carson Krogulski, Katie, Alison, and Janie Wyatt, Kloee and Carter Thilges, and Kellen and Brynn Kinkade; as well as other extended family members and many friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Albert and Titus Schau; and three sisters, Mary, Elsie, and Erna.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Varina United Methodist Church in Varina. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present the entire time. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
