Jean Carol Warme Nelson was born on June 25, 1931, in Alta, Iowa, to Eric J. and Edith R. Lindberg Warme. She received her education at Fairview Country School near Alta.
Jean married Arnold “Bub” Nelson on January 29, 1950, in a little chapel north of Alta, Iowa. Having made their home in Alta, they became parents of four sons. Jean and Bub owned and operated Nelson and Son's Garage until 1965. In 1971, they opened Nelson's Super Service which they ran until 1978.
A homemaker, Jean also worked many part-time jobs and loved taking care of children at the Gingerbread House. She adored her grandchildren, loved working in the garden, listening to music, and reading. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, she was active in Ladies Aid and Firette, doing a heck of a job on the “bucket brigade.”
Jean passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at age 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Peterson, and her brother-in-law, Emmett Peterson; her brother, Dale Warme and her sister-in-law, Adele Warme; her brother-in-law, Don Elmer; and her son, David Nelson.
Jean is survived by her sister, Alice Elmer, of St. George, Utah; her son, Bruce (Linda) Nelson, of Glidden, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Gigi Nelson, of Alta, Iowa; her sons, James “Harv” (Barb) and Dan “Booner” (Susan) Nelson, all of Spencer, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
