Rachel M. Parrish, age 62, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died March 6, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. She was born on April 3, 1950, in Rumford, Maine, the daughter of Henry and Joan (Trubee) Ferland. Baptized at St. Theresa’s Parish in Mexico, Maine, she attended grade school at St. Theresa’s Parish and graduated from Mexico’s, Main High School in 1968. Following high school her graduation, she attended the University of Maine South Campus for one year.
On June 13, 1970, she married Don Parrish at St. Theresa’s Parish in Mexico, Maine. They were blessed with three sons: Nathan, Justin, and Jonathan.
A member of the New Hampshire Arabian Horse Association and the New London Pony Club, Rachel had several horses throughout her life. In addition, she loved all animals. A kind, caring person to all she met, she loved to spend her afternoons quilting with her good friend, Elaine Roling. Above all, however, she treasured her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Don Parrish, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her sons: Nathan (Anne) Parrish, of Newport, New Hampshire, Justin Parrish, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jonathan (Michelle) Parrish, of Bedford, New Hampshire; her brothers: Henry (Cindy) Ferland, of South Windom, Maine, John (Paulette) Ferland, of Hudson, Maine, David (Shirley) Ferland, of Augusta, Maine, and Keith (Brenda) Ferland, of Apache Junction, Arizona; and her sister, Nancy (Darrell) Burns, of Winterport, Maine; as well as her nieces; nephews; extended family members; and many friends.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., March 16, 2013, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
