Delbert "Del" Coatsworth, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on February 26, 2013, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Delbert G. Coatsworth was born on September 22, 1915, to Alvin and Ava (Harris) Coatsworth in Spencer, South Dakota. He spent his childhood years on the family farm northeast of Spencer.
On April 15, 1939, Delbert married Sadie Peterson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. For many years, they made their home northeast of Hartley, Iowa, where they farmed and raised their three children: Linda, Bill, and Bob. In 1957, Del and Sadie moved to Schaller and then later to Storm Lake.
A car salesman for many years, Del met several customers throughout those years who became close friends. He also worked as an auctioneer.
Del treasured his time with family and friends. In his spare time, he loved playing golf with them. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with them while having a cup of coffee. He especially valued his great grandchildren, his pride and joy, and he truly enjoyed their visits. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Linda (Bob) Johnson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, Bob Coatsworth, of Columbus, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Ardine (Randy) Harvey, Barbara Johnson, Connie (Thom) Watts, Del (fiancée, Teri) Johnson, Erica (Todd) Boettcher, Hope Coatsworth, Chrissy (Brian) Sullivan, Jennifer (Lee) Brandsasse, and Michelle Coatsworth; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family members, and many friends.
Del was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sadie Coatsworth; his son, Bill Coatsworth; two sisters and their husbands; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Coatsworth; and his grandson, Tony Coatsworth.
Visitation: 4:00-8:00 p.m., March 01, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
