Mary Brenner, age 80, of Schaller, Iowa, died March 4, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Mary Jansen was born on December 8, 1932, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Elizabeth (Faber) Jansen. She was baptized, received 1st Communion, and was confirmed in the Catholic Church. Growing up, she attended school in Storm Lake, graduating from St. Mary’s in 1950.
On September 25, 1954, Mary married Joseph Brenner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with eight children: Diane, William, Joanne, Roger, Ray, Kathy, Ed, and Amy.
Mary worked as a telephone operator for many years. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the nursing home in Schaller and at the Buena Vista Hospital before she retired.
In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and having her morning coffee with her friends. Above all, however, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children: Diane (Scott) Stevenson, of Sioux City, Iowa, Bill, Roger (Jenn), and Ray (Lisa) Brenner, all of Schaller, Iowa, Kathy (John) Breuklander, of Forest City, Iowa, and Ed (Dorinda) Brenner, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Pat, Jay, Kelsey, Hailey, Tyler, Brandon, and Rachel Brenner; Shawn and Stacey Breuklander; Josh, Jeremy, and Jordan Carlson; Orin and Karrissa Sargent; Carrie and Ben Stevenson; Shane and Zoe Swanson; and Emily Wilroth; thirteen great grandchildren; her brother, Fred (Rita) Jansen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her sisters: Agatha (Dick) Sholly, of Stanchfield, Minnesota; Arlene (Melvin) Morfeld, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Sister Rita Jansen of La Crosse, Wisconsin; as well as extended family members and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Brenner; her daughters, Amy Swanson and Joanne Carlson; and one brother, Ray Jansen.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., March 06, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., March 07, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa.
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow, March 06, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
