Larry R. "Porky" Page
May 7, 1956 - January 15, 2013
Alta, Iowa
Larry Ray Page, known to friends and family as “Porky,” was born on May 7, 1956, to William and Elaine (Olson) Page in Harlan, Iowa. He attended school in Harlan. Following his high school graduation in 1975, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving until 1980. In May of 1978, he moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, and later to Alta where he lived the remainder of his life. For twenty years, he worked in production at Bil Mar Foods. In 1998, he attended truck-driving school, graduating with a CDL certificate. Over the next ten years, he worked maintenance jobs and served with the Alta Fire Department until a major injury kept him home on disability.
A simple man, Porky enjoyed simple things: riding motorcycles, taking short drives around town, eating at Subway, cheering on the Vikings, and playing cards at Clem’s. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he looked forward to the “Page Family Christmas Campout” every summer. Family and friends will remember him for his caring ways and unique sense of humor.
Porky was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ricky Lee; and his sister, Debra Jean.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Sandy Carlson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his brothers, Bill (Kathy), of Chula Vista, California and Keith (Natalie) of Alta, Iowa; his nieces, Jodie (Myron) Goodwin, of Linn Grove, Iowa, Mandy (Joseph) Leonard, of Alta, Iowa, and Melissa Page, of Chula Vista, California; his nephews, Shawn (Trena) Page, of Atlantic, Iowa, Jim (Jennifer) Schumacher, of Harlan, Iowa, Toby Schumacher, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bill Schumacher, of Rockwell City, Iowa, Jason (fiancée, Krystal) Page, of Alta, Iowa, and Matthew (Laura) Page, of Alta, Iowa; six great-nieces; twelve great-nephews; and many other extended family and friends.
