Jacob G. "Jack" Nielsen, age 80, of Newell, Iowa, died on January 18, 2013, in Pomeroy, Iowa.
Jack Nielsen was born on January 16, 1933, in Newell, Iowa, the son of Victor and Mildred (Bulick) Nielsen. After graduating from Newell High School in 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army. On November 23, 1957, he married Kathryn Elizabeth Bell.
Jack worked as a heavy equipment operator and a farmer until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables and flowers with many friends and family members. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he enjoyed sharing his love of fishing, hunting, and farming with them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Tom Nielsen, of Newell, Iowa, Mike (Dellene) Nielsen, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mariane Nielsen, of Sutherland, Iowa, Dan (Lonna) Nielsen, of St. Charles, Iowa, Sharon Nielsen, and Jeff Stange, of Pomeroy, Iowa, and Mark (Meg) Nielsen, of Truesdale, Iowa; his grandchildren: Jason, Kyle, Tammy, Jaclyn, JD, John, Jenna, Melea, and JoAnn Nielsen; Brandon and Zach Chiles; Samantha, Grant, Liz, and Adam Stange; and Michelea Bonner.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers, Kenny and Neal.
Memorial Service: 6:00 p.m., January 26, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa.
