Orville Wells, age 81, of Fonda, Iowa, died December 23, 2012, at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda.
Orville John Wells, son of Lloyd and Margaret (Hammen) Wells, was born on May 16, 1931, near Jolley, Iowa.
Orville received his education at St. Columbkille School in Varina, Iowa. After graduating, Orville farmed for one year. He, then, went into the United States Army for two years spending eighteen months in Germany. After returning home, Orville married Betty Kirby on September 18, 1954. He and Betty lived in Storm Lake until the spring of 1956 when they moved to a farm two miles east of Storm Lake. In 1960, they moved to a farm just west of Fonda, and in 1983, they moved to the home they built two miles south of Fonda. Their marriage was blessed with five sons.
Orville was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish and the Knights of Columbus. A loving and dedicated husband and father, Orville became Betty’s devoted caretaker when her debilitating illness left her unable to do for herself. Orville enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and the winter months in Arizona.
Orville is survived by four sons: Rodney (Bonnie), Michael (Kellie), Robert (Lona), and Gary (Jennifer); ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Siela.
Orville was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Lloyd and Margaret Wells; his son, Larry Joe; his brothers, Deland, Marlyn, and Willis; and one sister, Naomi Fitzpatrick.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., December 27, 2012, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa.
Visitation: 4:30-7:30 p.m., December 26, 2012, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa.
