Bud Weiland, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 26, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Clarence “Bud” Weiland was born on October 13, 1932, in Woden, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Leona (Monson) Weiland. As an infant, he was baptized and later confirmed.
Growing up, Bud attended school and subsequently graduated from Hayfield High School in 1951. In September 1953, he entered the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in September 1955.
On June 17, 1961, Bud married Bernice Logemann at Deer Creek Valley in Northwood, Iowa. They were blessed with one son, Brian.
A member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Bud served on the church board. He also helped out as the church custodian for many years.
Bud enjoyed working for the Iowa Department of Transportation for several years. After retiring, he began working for a plumbing and heating company. Now and then, he mentioned he was going to retire, but he never did. In his spare time, he loved fishing.
Willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed, Bud always put others first. He treasured his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty-one years, Bernice Weiland, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, Brian (Kris) Weiland, of Johnston, Iowa; his brother, Don (Darlene) Weiland, of Britt, Iowa; and his sisters, Imogene (John) Burgardt, of Britt, Iowa, Lois (Chuck) Conaway, also of Britt, Iowa, and Diane (Roger) McKinney, of Mesa, Arizona; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Leona Weiland; his brothers, Larry and Dean Weiland; and one sister, Darlene Dunbar.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., December 28, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., December 29, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
