Marilene "Jane" Sennert
June 10, 1930 - December 24, 2012

Storm Lake, Iowa

Marilene Louise (Jane) Sennert, age 82, of Storm Lake, formerly of Linn Grove, died on December 24, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Marilene Louise Jesse was born on June 10, 1930, in the Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Hulda (Otto) Jesse. She was baptized on June 29, 1930, and confirmed on June 18, 1944, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Storm Lake. Her brother, Marvin, nicknamed her “Jane” before he could say Marilene, and the name stuck. She attended school at Hayes, Sulphur Springs, and business school at Chillicothe, Missouri, before working at Consumers Supply Company in Storm Lake.

Marilene “Jane” married Richard Sennert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Storm Lake, on June 4, 1950. They were blessed with three sons: Randal, Ronald, and David.

Jane’s life centered around her faith, family, friends, and farming in Buena Vista County Iowa. She had the gift of hospitality, her willing hands always busy cooking and entertaining. She would attend church on Sunday mornings, connect with family and friends all week long, and watch over the family’s farming business. Proverbs 31:10-31 come to mind. Jane lived with a mechanical heart valve for twenty-seven years and saw the medical community frequently as she delt with heart/blood issues. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing cards. An avid flower gardener who loved chocolate, she had a passion for perfection.

Jane loved “her boys,” Richard, Randal, Ronald, and David; her daughters-in-law, Donna, Barbara, and Rita; and always her “precious” grandchildren. A hands on grandma, she always followed their many activities and made special time for each grandchild. She intentionally passed down her German heritage.

A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta, Jane actively participated in the Ladies Aid Society. Jesus was her Lord and Savior. Her days began and ended with prayer. Her family loved her, and she will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Richard, of sixty-two years; her sons, Randal (Donna) Sennert, of Storm Lake, Ronald (Barbara) Sennert, of Linn Grove, and David (Rita) Sennert, of Pocahontas; six grandchildren: John Sennert, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Karen (Matt) Higgins, of Andover, Minnesota; Amy (Randall) Kaufmann, of Lenexa, Kansas, Christina Sennert, of Waterloo, Iowa, Nick (Mary) Sennert, of Mankato, Minnesota, and Kate Sennert, of Ames, Iowa; one great-grandchild, Thomas Higgins, of Andover, Minnesota; and one sister-in-law, Sheila Jesse, of Storm Lake, as well as extended family members and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Hulda Jesse; her brothers, Marvin and Norman Jesse; and a sister-in-law Renae Jesse.
