Kermit Hatlen, age 91, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died December 27, 2012, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Harold Kermit Hatlen, son of Reverend Knut G. and Inga (Peterson) Hatlen, was born on January 6, 1921, in Watertown, South Dakota.

Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, Kermit resided in Sioux Rapids and Storm Lake. In June of 2001, he entered the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids and lived there until his death. While there, he enjoyed his visits from many friends and associating with all the staff. He appreciated the excellent care he received and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Throughout his life, Kermit held various jobs including “pin setter” at the bowling alley in Sioux Rapids, dishwasher at Lakeshore Café in Storm Lake, and janitor at Ressler’s Drug in Storm Lake. He loved people and especially liked marching in the July 4th Parades in Storm Lake, dressed in his “button suit.” He also enjoyed fishing and playing checkers.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Inger and Conrad; and his sisters, Marianna, Miriam, and Madeline.

He is survived by his nieces, nephews, and their families.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Cemetery in Rembrandt, Iowa. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
