Lorene "Lori" K. Carlson, age 55, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, December 17, 2012, at her home in Sioux Rapids.

Lori K. Wise, the daughter of Darlene (Hughes) Wise, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on May 19, 1957. She lived her youth in Linn Grove and was a 1975 graduate of Sioux Valley High School. Following her graduation, she attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

On July 5, 1980, Lori married James Carlson at their current home in rural Sioux Rapids. They were blessed with two sons: Joshua and Jacob. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Lori became a conscientious care-giver for her family.

Lori faithfully attended and served at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. She enjoyed doing all types of craft work, participating in craft fairs, and making many memorable Christmas gifts for her family and friends. She also took immense pleasure in tending to her garden, but she especially loved her many memorable “sister-in-law” weekends and vacations. Family and friends will fondly remember her as a very engaging and social person who cherished the times she could spend with all of them.

Lori’s life will always be cherished by her family which includes her husband, James Carlson, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; two sons: Joshua Carlson, and his wife, Sarah, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Jacob Carlson, of Spencer, Iowa, and his fiancée, Allie Vazquez, of Linn Grove, Iowa; her mother, Darlene Wise, of Linn Grove, Iowa; and six brothers: Dennis (Brigitte) Wise, of Heltersburg, Germany, Dwain (Karen) Wise, of Sweet Home, Oregon, Emmett (Marlene) Wise, of Defiance, Iowa, Randy Wise, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Jim (Deb) Wise, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Mickey Wise, of Peterson, Iowa; as well as many precious nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and other extended family and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Denise Wise, on October 1, 2012.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church with the family present. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the memorials may be shared with the family in honor and memory of Lori.
