Violet LaFever, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 6, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Violet Mae Newell was born on November 18, 1919, to John and Ethel Newell of Storm Lake. Having spent her childhood in Storm Lake, she graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1938. On December 21, 1940, she married Wilbur G. LaFever at the Methodist Church parsonage in Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children, a little daughter, Jean Marie, and a little son, Jerry Wilbur.
Violet was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. She loved to go to dances and play Bingo and card games with her husband, Wilbur, who passed away on November 20, 1984. A very close family, they also loved getting together with her parents, her brothers and sisters, and their families. Even in her later years, she still cherished those times she and her two sisters got together with their families. Eventually, her son, Jerry, moved back to take care of her in her declining years so that she wouldn’t have to live alone.
For twenty-six years, Violet took care of babies and small children for seven different families in Storm Lake. She loved the little ones.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Marie, (as an infant); her husband, Wilbur; her parents, John and Ethel Newell; her brothers: Glenn, John, and Howard Newell; and her sisters: Grace Strock, Annabell Newell, and Lois Bruns; as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many friends.
Those who will cherish her memory include her son, Jerry LaFever, and her former daughter-in-law, Donna Zimmerman Jesse, both of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Lynn and Korey Kollbaum, of Fonda, Iowa, and Brandon and Eva LaFever, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her little great grandson, Collin J. LaFever; and her sister, Emma Hanson, and her husband, Harold, of Sioux City, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m., December 11, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., December 11, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
