Richard W. Iehl, age 86, of Albert City, Iowa, died on November 23, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Richard Warren Iehl, the son of Chester “Lyle” and Fae (Deppe) Iehl, was born in Oto, Iowa, on November 27, 1925. As a young child, he moved with his family to the Nemaha area where he received his education and graduated from the Nemaha High School. Richard, then, attended Iowa State University in Ames where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Husbandry. During the Korean War, he faithfully served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from September 19, 1950, until September 20, 1952.

Richard married Marcia Binder on August 9, 1953, at the Rembrandt United Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children: Sharon, Roger, and Robert. The first six months following their marriage, Richard and Marcia resided in Odebolt where he served as the assistant manager of the Odebolt Coop Elevator. They, next, moved to their farm near Rembrandt where they lived for the next thirty-eight years. Richard and Marcia, then, moved to Albert City where they made their home. During their retirement, they enjoyed spending ten winters in Arizona and traveling to forty-nine states.

An active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City, Richard was currently serving as chairman of the church trustees. He led a very busy and fulfilling life touching many lives. A member of the Albert City Lion’s Club, he served as the organization’s District Governor. He also belonged to the Historical Board and the Pork Producers Board. A founding member of the Albert City Community Band, he played the baritone horn. Very instrumental in the Threshermen’s activities, he took responsibility for the Threshermen’s toy show. A very interesting and talented man, he enjoyed woodworking as well as building and collecting toys and miniature buildings.

Richard’s life is honored and celebrated by his family which includes his wife, Marcia, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Sharon Iehl, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Roger (Caron) Iehl, of Lakeside, Iowa, and Robert (Cindy) Iehl, of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren: Brad Iehl; Jason (Anne) Iehl, and their son, Kolten; Brenda (Tim) Wolf, and their son, Bennett, and stepson, Adam Wolf; Jamie Iehl, and her special friend, Martel Green; David Iehl; Brandon Iehl, and his fiancée, Kylea Hinrich, and her son, Layton; his sister, Frances Logston, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Jo Iehl, of Fremont, Nebraska; as well as his nieces; nephews; other extended family; and many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Everett.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will take place Monday, November 26, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present the entire time. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
