Gladys Lorraine Johnson was born in Alta, Iowa, on March 11, 1913, to Arthur Richard and Martha (Erickson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Alta Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1930, she graduated from Alta High School as the salutatorian of her class. The next few years, she worked at the Peterson Grocery Store and the city library, after which she worked for more than twenty-five years at the Alta Bank.

She lived with her mother for whom she cared. During her summer vacations, she took many domestic and foreign trips. Her nieces and nephews have many fond memories of the loving things she did for them.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandparents; and her uncle, Edward Erickson, and his wife, Alta; as well as many cousins.

She is survived by her sister, Lucille Kledis, of Cherokee, Iowa; her nine nieces and nephews; Germayne and Dick Johnson, of Sutherland, Iowa; several cousins and friends including Ray Vring and family, who provided Gladys with many years of help. Gladys will be remembered for all of her acts of kindness.
