Gerhardt Gutz, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, October 12, 2012, at his home in rural Storm Lake.
Gerhardt George Gutz was born on February 10, 1920, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Louise (Ripke) Gutz. On February 15, 1920, he was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed on March 25, 1934. Gerhardt attended school through the eighth grade.
On April 27, 1941, Gerhardt married Lois Adelia Morse at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children, Bernie and Norlin.
Gerhardt was a member of the Farm Bureau. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served as an elder and chairman of the congregation. He took part in Bible study as well.
In his spare time, Gerhardt enjoyed golfing, reading, watching baseball, and driving Allis-Chalmers tractors. He had a passion for his farm and farming. He and Lois had lived in their present home for sixty-nine years.
Gerhardt treasured his family. He loved watching and attending his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities. However, he will be especially remembered for his story telling and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of seventy years, Lois Gutz, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, Norlin (Becky) Gutz, also of Storm Lake, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Mardel Gutz, of Bellville, Illinois; his grandchildren: Charlie (Jennifer) Gutz, of Bellevue, Nebraska, Sara (Mike) Groher, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kayla (Al) Preto, of Castro Valley, California, Emily Gutz, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ryan Gutz, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Kelly (B. J.) Habben, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Brandon (Heidi) Hout, of O’Fallon, Illinois, Brian (Maribelle) Hout, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Brenda (Jay) Zittler, of Milton, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Elijah, Benjamin, and Matthias Gutz; Elise, Reid, and Adelia Groher; Adriana Preto; and Daryn, Parker, Caden, and Shaylene Habben; his sisters: Zelda Morse, of Tucson, Arizona, Lenora Vogel, of Murrieta, California, and Julie Gutz, of Phoenix, Arizona; and his sister-in-law, Louise Gutz, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.
Gerhardt was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Louise; his son, Bernie Gutz; his brother, Norman Gutz; his sisters: Pauline Gutz, Victoria Christensen, and Vera Vallie; and his brothers-in-law, Norton Morse and Bob Christensen.
Visitation: 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., October 14, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., October 15, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa.
