Bobby Jo Winslow
September 28, 1948 - September 18, 2012

Milford, Iowa, and formerly of Newell, Iowa

Bobby Jo Winslow, age 63, of Milford, Iowa, and formerly of Newell, Iowa, died September 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Bobby Petersen was born on September 28, 1948, in Owatonna, Minnesota, the daughter of Gerald and Delores Rousch Petersen. Baptized in 1960 at the Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa, she graduated from Newell Providence High school in 1967. She, then, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from Buena Vista College.

On April 13, 1969, Bobby married Bryan Jewell. One son, Justin, was born of this union. On May 13, 1978, Bobby married Jon Winslow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.

A woman of many interests, she read avidly, made numerous beautiful quilts, collected antiques, and explored her family genealogy. Indeed, she had a passion for family and family history. Very proud of her Danish heritage, she fulfilled her dream in 2008 of going to Denmark to research her family history. She also greatly enjoyed shopping online at QVC and taking trips with “the girls” as well as watching movies, attending concerts, and traveling. She always looked forward to her annual trip to Galena, Illinois, to go craft shopping with her husband, Jon.

For over thirty years, Bobby worked as a social worker for Buena Vista County. Her coworkers also became like family and an important part of her life. A fun, loving person, she had a contagious positive attitude and smile. At the least expected moment, she would have a card in the mail to let both family and friends know she was thinking of them. God willing, she never missed a birthday, holiday, celebration, or gathering. If her car could go and wheels would turn, she was on the road ready to go. Her endless thoughtfulness and love will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Jon Winslow, of Milford, Iowa; her son, Justin (fiancée, Shantel Kathman) Jewell, of Spencer, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jeremy and Dalton Lorenzen, Christian and Austin Jewell, and Aaron Kathman; her long awaited great granddaughter, Hallie Fletcher; her mother, Delores (Norm) Newbury, of Alta, Iowa; her stepmother, Marylinn Petersen, of Wahpeton, Iowa; her parents-in-law: Chester and Leona Winslow, of Milford, Iowa; her sisters, Jerri Long, of Newell, Iowa, and Lynn (Norm) Hogrefe, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her half-sister, Michelle (Brian) Kruger, of Washington State; her half-brother, John Survis, of Austin, Texas; her stepsister, Beth (Kent) Wolcott, of Wahpeton, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Les (Diane) Winslow, of Carmichael, California; her sisters-in-law, Carol (Marvin) Feldhacker, of Houston, Texas, and Jolene (Lee) Fransdal, of Lakeville, Minnesota; her aunt, Shirley Freese, of Newell, Iowa; her uncle, Everett (Shizu) Roush, of Vacaville, California; and her aunt, Karen Roush, of Maine; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by her father: Gerald (Jerry) Petersen; her grandparents: James Elmer and Lillian Petersen and Glen and Maggie Roush; her uncles and aunts: Bill (Carol) and Jim (Betty) Petersen and Gerald Roush; her brother-in-law, Ken Winslow; and her niece, Wendy Hogrefe.
