Betty L. Ploeger, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died September 19, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Betty Louise Bork, the daughter of Walter A. and Thelma L. Koons Bork, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on October 14, 1933. Betty received her education at the Hayes Consolidated School, graduating with the Class of 1952. While in high school, Betty was captain of the girls basketball team. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

On May 24, 1953, Betty married Marvin E. Ploeger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Wanda, Cheryl, David, and Vicki.

Following Marv’s honorable discharge, they lived for ten years south of Storm Lake and then moved to their farm east of Storm Lake where they resided for the next forty-four years. Betty led a very busy life as a loving and devoted wife and mother. Throughout her married life, she also worked in the community at various concerns including the Security Trust and Savings Bank, the Montgomery Ward’s Store, the hospital, Head Start, and Wal-Mart.

For many years, Marvin and Betty were members of Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In their later years, they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church of Storm Lake. A member of the Ladies Aid Society and Bible Study, Betty also generously gave of her time doing many job within her church. Whenever something needed doing, people could count on Betty to volunteer.

An accomplished seamstress, Betty also enjoyed tending to both her flower and vegetable gardens, and she did a lot of canning of produce every year. In addition, she and Marv enjoyed taking camping trips and square dancing. Most of all, however, Betty had a special place in her heart for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with them.

Those who will always love Betty and cherish her memory include her children: Wanda (Jack) Konz, of Johnston, Iowa, Cheryl (Steve) Olmstead, of Mesa, Arizona, David (Judy) Ploeger, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Vicki (Joseph) Kingkade, of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren: Nicholas (Andrea) Konz, Andrea (Ben) Tilus, Amy Konz, Justin (Heather) Olmstead, Phillip (Becca) Olmstead, Tony (Robyn) Ploeger, Peggy Ploeger, Ryan (Karin) Kingkade, and Ashley (Alex) Slaughter; ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Larry (Jeannette) Bork, of Eddyville, Iowa, and Garry (Terry) Bork, of Independence, Kentucky; and a sister, Nelda (Richard) Sampel, of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marvin, on December 2, 2009.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., September 23, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., September 24, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Interment: September 24, 2012, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery in rural Schaller, Iowa.
