November 21, 1947 - July 19, 2012

Thomas J. Clausen, age 64, of Albert City, Iowa, died July 19, 2012, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Thomas Jack Clausen, the son of Oscar and Lorraine (Boettcher) Clausen, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on November 21, 1947. Tom spent his youth in the Albert City community and graduated from the Albert City High School in 1966. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from May 8, 1968, until his honorable discharge from the Navy Reserves on February 27, 1974.

Tom was united in marriage to Maureen Lofquist at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City on August 5, 1973. They were blessed with three sons: Michael, Christopher, and Lucas.

Tom’s career as an electrician and plumber began when he worked for Don Johnson. In 1979, he began Clausen Hardware and Service and his brother, Kent, joined him in the business in 1981.

Tom was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. He also belonged to the Albert City Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. He was a longtime member of the Albert City Volunteer Fire Department where he had also served as an EMT.

Tom’s special interests included model railroads, camping, traveling, movies, and biking. His sons always appreciated his assistance with their home improvement projects.

Tom loved all of his family very much and his three grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. Those left to celebrate and treasure his life include his wife, Maureen, of Albert City, Iowa; his three sons: Michael (Carrie) Clausen, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Christopher (Leah) Clausen, of Waukee, Iowa, and Lucas (Jane) Clausen, of Waukee, Iowa; his grandchildren: Olivia, Hayden, and Fletcher Clausen; and his brothers: Dave (Judy) Clausen and Kent (Deb) Clausen, all of Albert City; as well as extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
