Dorothy Brecher, age 98, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died October 6, 2012, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Dorothy Madsen was born on January 18, 1914, in Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of Charley and Alvena (Barnes) Madsen. She received her education in the rural schools of Holstein, but after one year of high school, she remained at home to help her father and ill mother on their farm.
On November 17, 1937, she married Carl Paul Pries in Holstein. They farmed in the Holstein area until 1971 when they retired to a home in Holstein. Carl passed away in 1973.
An active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Holstein, Dorothy served as president of the Ladies Aid for four years and also as treasurer for four years.
On December 29, 1976, she married Dr. Chester A. Brecher of Storm Lake. She, then, became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and also a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona with her husband, Chester. She loved her Bridge Clubs and getting together with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her step children: Douglas Brecher, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Mary Lou (Dr. W. A. Warner), of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughter-in-law, Sally Brecher, of Storm Lake, Iowa; six step grandchildren; her nephew, Verdean (Theone) Bremer, of Ida Grove, Iowa; and her niece, Kay (Darrell) Whitehead, of Audubon, Iowa; as well as extended family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her sisters: Thelma, Mrs. W.M. Bremer, Frances, Mrs. Robert Andresen, and Alice, Mrs. Earl Scott; her nephew, Larry Scott; and her niece, Darlean Long.
Visitation: 12:00 p.m., October 10, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., October 10, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Interment: October 10, 2012, at Holstein Cemetery in Holstein, Iowa.
