Perry Edwin Brake was born on September 2, 1924, to Edwin and Wilhelmina Elsie Rusch Brake in Galva Township, Ida County, Iowa. He was baptized on September 28, 1924, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller and confirmed on May 5, 1940, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Galva. After graduating from the eighth grade in Galva in May of 1938, he moved to Rembrandt where he graduated from high school in May 1942.
Perry married Edith Marie Breckenfelder of Rembrandt on December 26, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.
Starting in 1949, Perry farmed his entire adult life until he retired in 2004, working the land in the Aurelia area from 1954 to 1975 before moving to Rembrandt. After retiring, he moved to Alta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jerry and James; a brother-in-law, Ernie Breckenfelder; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Breckenfelder.
He is survived by his wife, Edith M. Brake, of Alta; his daughter, Linda, and her husband, Duane Wiese, of Alta, Iowa; and his sons, Ervin, and his wife, Runae Brake, also of Alta, Iowa, and Loren, and his wife, Crystal Brake, of Rembrandt, Iowa; his grandchildren, Troy, and his wife, Jen Wiese, of Ankeny, Iowa, Brent Wiese, also of Ankeny, Iowa, Nathan Wiese, of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael, and his wife, Alicia Bittner, of Omaha, Nebraska, Kristine Brake, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Kelsey, Kaity, and Cole Brake, all of Alta, Iowa; his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kylee Wiese, of Ankeny, Iowa; a sister, Marga Breckenfelder, of Chicago, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Stanberry, of Virginia.
