Robert E. (Bob) Horsfall, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on August 6, 2012.

He was born in Worthington, Minnesota, on January 20, 1924. In 1941, he graduated from high school in Little Rock, Iowa. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served active duty in the South Pacific as an aviation torpedo man. He also participated on the Navy basketball team.

Bob married Donna Wilken of Rock Rapids, Iowa, on August 4, 1949. That same year, he earned a B.A. Degree in education after completing coursework at Cornell and Morningside Colleges, having received all conference honors in basketball at both schools.

He spent five years as a teacher and coach in Durant, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Master’s Degree in school administration in 1954. Subsequently, he spent thirty-three years as a superintendent of schools in Calamus, West Liberty, Perry, Area VI Community Colleges, and Webster City where he spent the last 19 years before retiring in 1987. He belonged to many professional organizations both in Iowa and nationally.

He and his wife Donna moved to Florida in 1989 dividing their time between there and their cottage at West Lake Okoboji. Upon the death of his wife of fifty-five years in 2005, he moved to Storm Lake to be closer to family.

Bob is survived by his three children and ten grandchildren: his daughters, Lori, and her husband, Mike Porsch, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Kari Kirchner, of Lexington, Kentucky; his son, Jan, and his wife, Susan Horsfall, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his grandchildren: Jacob Porsch, of Storm Lake, Alyssa Porsch, of Omaha, Nebraska, Nathan Porsch, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Jennifer and Christopher Kirchner, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Hunter, Britta, Lane, Finn, and Blaise Horsfall, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sisters, Marjorie Uzzo, of Sibley, Iowa, and Mildred Landon, of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as various nieces, nephews, and an honorary daughter, Adele Barnett, of Fielding, New Zealand. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, and infant twin sons, Jon and Joel.

Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m., August 09, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Visitation: 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., August 09, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: 00, 000 at Florida National Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
