Steven R. McCullough, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a heart attack while boating.

A lifelong resident of Storm Lake, Iowa, Steven Ray McCullough was born on August 31, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Claude “Bud” and Velma Jarvis McCullough. Baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, he graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1966.

Following high school, Steve worked at Hygrade Food Products in Storm Lake until it closed in 1981. While at Hygrade, Steve was an active member of Local 191 of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). In 1986, he joined Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake where he just recently celebrated his twenty-sixth year anniversary. While at Faith, Hope and Charity, Steve worked as a maintenance supervisor and took part in its many expansions over the years. A hard working man, Steve had a strong work ethic with the ability to fix most anything.

Steve grew up in a car family. Interested in anything related to cars, he had a passion for drag racing. He attended many races and rarely missed any televised race. He had a great love for his Corvettes starting with his first Corvette back in 1967. Steve also enjoyed listening to music and loved anything electronic.

Married to Linda Lou McCullough until 1983, Steve and she had two sons, Cody McCullough and Brandon McCullough.

Steve is survived by his mother, Velma McCullough, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his two sons: Cody (Krista) McCullough, and their daughter, Alex, of Jefferson, South Dakota, and Brandon (Wendy) McCullough, and their two sons, Jack and Finn, of North Liberty, Iowa; his brother, David (Joan) McCullough, of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Jane (John) Nielsen, of Glendale, Arizona; and his sister-in-law, Louise McCullough, of Storm Lake; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bud; and his brother, Larry.

Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., July 17, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., July 18, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
