Clyde Miller
May 30, 1927 - July 5, 2012

Clyde B. Miller, age 85, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Clyde Bert Miller, son of Jesse and Iva Belle Ringgenberg Miller, was born at home near Nemaha, Iowa, on May 30, 1927. He attended country school near Nemaha. The family then moved to the Sioux Rapids area where he graduated with the class of 1944 at the age of sixteen. At the age of seventeen, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Peleliu Islands working as a Captain's assistant, typing and distributing documents. He received an honorable discharge as Seaman First Class on July 17, 1946. He, then, returned home to help with the family farm.

On February 12, 1950, he married Delean Ann Haner of Woodbine, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church of Nashua, Iowa. To this union, two children were born. Clyde and Delean, then, started farming in the Webb area. He was also employed at Sundholm Manufacturing in Albert City, Iowa, and drove bus for the Cornell School District. In 1959, they moved to a farm west of Sioux Rapids where Clyde farmed and worked at International Implement. He, then, started work at Simonsen Iron Works where he was shop foreman for twenty-six years when he retired.

In 1967, Clyde and Delean moved into Sioux Rapids where, after his retirement, he made loomed rugs as a hobby for about another twenty years. He enjoyed going to craft shows to sell their rugs. Moreover, he had a garden which grew bigger and bigger with each passing year. Friends, neighbors, and family all enjoyed the benefits of his garden. He also custom baled hay and hauled fertilizer. Clyde enjoyed playing cards and bingo and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed talking with people; he did not know a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Aleta; and two sisters-in-law, Cleta Piercy Ehlers and Ines McCannon. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-two years, Delean, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his daughter, Lourene, and her husband, Richard Vail, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; and his son, Mark, and his wife, Dena, also of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren: Amy Rozeboom, Justin Vail, Matthew Miller, and Rebecca Aronson; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters: Shirley Woodford, of Spencer, Iowa, Marjorie Cooper, of Texas, and Donna Rath, also of Texas; and one brother, Carl, of California; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2012, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2012, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids where the family will greet friends.
