Elda Jorgensen, age 95, of Newell, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.

Elda Louise Krog was born on June 10, 1917, the daughter of Hans Chris and Alma Bartels Krog in Newell. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Albert City, Iowa, where she was later confirmed.

Growing up, Elda attended country school and later graduated from Newell High School in 1935.

On April 28, 1942, Elda married Oscar W. Jorgensen in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children: Robert K., Keith E., Ronald L., and Janene A.

Elda was a member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed helping out on and completing bookwork for the farm. She loved caring for her pets and visiting with neighbors and family. Having made family a very important part of her life, she treasured playing games with and telling stories to her grandchildren. In addition, her family will forever remember the many sewing projects she shared with them.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Robert K. (Beverly) Jorgensen, of Newell, Iowa, Keith E. (Kathy) Jorgensen, of Greenfield, Iowa, Ronald L. (Molly) Jorgensen, of Lakeside, Iowa, and Janene A. “Tootie” (Larry) Adams-Grote, of Newell, Iowa; her grandchildren: Steven C. Jorgensen, Shawn Jorgensen, Staci (Kirk) Kempwerth, Sian (Kevin) Butler, Andrea Butler, Maija Jorgensen, Nick Jorgensen, Chris (Jill) Adams, Jamie (Jenny) Adams, John Jorgensen, Dallas (Chris) Cornish, Mclaine (Sisomphone Mahavong) Jorgensen, and Farell Jorgensen; her great grandchildren: Shane Lyman, Shanda (Jerry and son Kurt) Lyman, Ryan (Kristine) Jorgensen, Justin (Jessica) Jorgensen, Jason Jorgensen, Meghan Jorgensen, Julia and Brittany Butler, Erica Yager, Elik and Eliana Mattis, Elle Jorgensen, Carson and Denisyn Adams, Cassidy and Justine Jorgensen, Natalie and Naunie Jorgensen, and soon to be welcomed, Riley Ann Adams; her great-great-grandchildren: Carter and Addelyn Jorgensen, Gavin and Alexis Jorgensen, Aden Butler, and Matthew Lyman, as well as extended family and friends.

Elda was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, in March 1999; her parents, Hans Chris and Alma Krog; and her great granddaughter, Cynthia Jorgensen.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. until service time on June 30, 2012, at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., June 30, 2012, at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.
Interment: 3:00 p.m., June 30, 2012, at Newell Cemetery in Newell, Iowa.
