Marie Heid, age 98, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Marie E. Determan was born on September 27, 1913, on a farm in Eden Township, Sac County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Hazelhoff Determan. As an infant, she was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa, and later confirmed there on October 21, 1922. Her education began at St. Lawrence Catholic School in Carroll for her first grade year. Then, she attended a Catholic school in Austin, Minnesota, for her second grade year, before transferring to Sacred Heart Catholic Schools in Early. She attended Sacred Heart School until four months into her ninth grade year when she left school to help at home after her mother had surgery. During her time in elementary school, she was the proud recipient of the Palmer Degree for penmanship in third grade.

On September 27, 1934, Marie married Andrew A. Heid at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. This union was blessed with three children: Francis, Mary, and Andrea.

Currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Marie was an active and faithful member of the Catholic faith over the years. Her faith was evident in the way she conducted her life. More than all else, Marie loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Additionally, she enjoyed embroidering and visiting with friends.

Those left to cherish Marie’s memory include her children: Francis (Sandra) Heid, of Cherokee, Iowa, Mary (Lee) Demers, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Andrea Dahlberg, of Krotz Springs, Louisiana; her grandchildren: Francis (Jocelyn) Heid, Jr., of Duluth, Minnesota, Stephan (Sandy) Heid, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jerri Jean Heid, and friend, Glenn Sandler, of Ames, Iowa, David (Georgia) Demers, of Storm Lake, Donald (Edith) Demers, of Beaverton, Oregon, Douglas (Terri) Demers, of Blair, Nebraska, Dean (Connie) Demers, of Grimes, Iowa, Jeffrey (Cody Ann) Demers, of Storm Lake, Jay (Claudette) Dahlberg, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Melissa Redding, of Laurens, Iowa, and Andrew Dahlberg of Port Barre, Louisiana; nineteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Delores Determan, of Carroll, Iowa; as well as extended family and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew; two brothers, Leo and Joseph Determan; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Ted) Holub; and a great grandson, Paul David Demers.

Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., July 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., July 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: July 14, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Early, Iowa.
