Sophia Schramm
December 31, 1902 - February 14, 2005

Sophia Schramm, age 102, of Storm Lake died Monday, February 14, 2005, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Sophia Augusta Martha Lehmann was born on December 31, 1902, to Gustav and Caroline (Buchholz) Lehmann on the family farm in Grant Township, Buena Vista County. Raised in the Storm Lake area, she was baptized on January 25, 1903, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake and confirmed there as well on April 16, 1916. Her confirmation scripture was Revelation 3:11. She received her education at Zion Lutheran Parochial School.

On September 26, 1923, Sophia married Henry William Robert Schramm in Spencer. Their union was blessed with four children: three sons, Donald, Reuben, and Waldo and one daughter, Inez.

Henry and Sophia were tillers of the soil, farming first in the Albert City area before moving near Webb where they farmed for sixteen years. They, then, moved to the Rembrandt area where they farmed for eight more years. For reasons of health, Henry had to retire from farming, so he and Sophia moved into Truesdale. Henry passed away August 21, 1958, after which Sophia remained in Truesdale for many more years until she moved to Storm Lake in 1985. In September of 1995, she entered Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake and remained there until her death.

Sophia was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured her family and the time she was able to spend with them. She enjoyed working in her vegetable gardens and flower beds. She also liked to crochet and do embroidery work. She loved to play cards and go to square dances. A devoted Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan, Sophia never missed a game on TV if at all possible. For her 100th birthday, her grandchildren presented her with a Cubs jersey complete with the number 100 and a Cubs cap.

Sophia was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Caroline Lehmann; her husband, Henry Schramm; her brothers, Ernest, Fred, and Arthur Lehmann; and her sisters, Martha Kolpin, and Mary and Adella Lehmann.

To mourn her loss, she leaves behind her sons: Donald, and his wife, Maxine Schramm, of Storm Lake, Reuben, and his wife, Jean Schramm, of Clear Lake, and Waldo, and his wife, Lee Schramm, of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughter, Inez Eimers, of Storm Lake; ten grandchildren: Gary, and his wife, Karen Schramm, of Aurelia, John Schramm, of Lawrence, Kansas, Susan Weipert, of Clear Lake, Laura Thompson, of Des Moines, Keith, and his wife, Sue Schramm, of Tacoma, Washington, Roger Schramm, of Auburn, Washington, Sandra Schramm, of Kent, Washington, Bill, and his wife, Jean Eimers, of Storm Lake, Dale, and his wife, Carmen Eimers, of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Eileen and her husband, Steve Turnquist, of Alta; her great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Julia, and Katy Weipert, Nigel and Zach Thompson, Monica Brown, Lisa Olson, Ethan, Dakota, Stephanie, and Paula Eimers, and Ariel, Alyssa, Ali, and Alicia Turnquist; her great-great-grandchildren: Erica Duffy, Jared Brown, and McKenna Olson; as well as a host of other family and friends.
