Born August 10th, 1958, to Carl and Bertha Bishop-Nelson in Storm Lake, Iowa, Barbara Nelson graduated from Barnum High School (Northwest Webster). After attending Iowa Central Community College and Buena Vista University, she received a BA degree in Social Work.
Barb held various jobs during her life including serving as a social worker, a telemarketer, and a food promoter passing out samples in various area grocery stores. She also worked at Wal-Mart, the Glove Factory, and Spectra Health Care.
Barb volunteered at an animal shelter run by her very good friend, Carolyn Snedeker. She also served as a board member of the shelter for several years. Barb loved cats and had several special cats during her life. She loved, cared for, and spent much time with her most recent two cats, Sapphire and Faith Rose. She also cherished spending time and visiting with family and friends.
Baptized in the Church of Christ at Fort Dodge, Iowa, Barb had a great love for her Heavenly Father. When she moved to Storm Lake, she became a member of the Church of Christ in Alta, Iowa.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha (Bishop) Nelson; her father, Carl Nelson; her grandparents, Bill and Ella Bishop and Alvin and Cecil Nelson; her aunts: Betty Alt, Margaret Brockey, Rhina Henderson, Carol Bishop, Hazel Kleespies, Marjorie Bogue, and Edna and RoseAnn Nelson; and her uncles: Donald and William Bishop, Alfred Henderson, Louie Kleespies, and Jimmie Bogue as well as Leo, Raymond, Harold, and Marvin Nelson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her uncles: Harris Bishop, of Storm Lake, Gerald (MaryAnn) Bishop, of Spencer, Wayne (MaryBeth) Bishop, of Everly, and Ron (Barb) Bishop, of Tucson, Arizona; her aunts: Joyce (Larry) Matzdorf, of Williams, Arizona, Cheryl (Stan) Cox and Helen Nelson, of Correctionville, Coleen Nelson, of Tama, and Ginger Nelson, of Arizona; and her step mother, Dorothy Nelson, of Florida as well as many cousins and friends and her two cats, Sapphire and Faith Rose.
