Howard Lawrence Pemberton, age 92 years, 10 months and 25 days, passed away May 8, 2012, at the Methodist Manor of Storm Lake, Iowa.
Born on June 14, 1919, Howard was the son of Clyde and Cleo (Bryan) Pemberton. He graduated from Hallsville High School in Hallsville, Missouri, in 1937.
On March 28, 1942, Howard married Virginia Lucille Cox. They were blessed with six children: Larry, William, Gary, Brenda, Carol, and Cheryl. Howard faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army from April 1, 1942, until he was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. During his service to his country, he received two Purple Hearts, an Oak Leaf Cluster, two Silver Stars, and one Bronze Star. In addition, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on the Battlefield in Metz, France, on January 19, 1945.
After the War, Howard worked for Riback Plumbing and Heating in Columbia, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing pool, and southern cooking. Lucille passed away April, 2001, after fifty-eight years of marriage. Then, while wintering in Mission, Texas, Howard met Ardys Heinsohn. They were married on June 29, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Glen; his first wife, Lucille; his son-in-law, David Gysbers; and his step-son, Larry Heinsohn.
Howard’s life will always be honored and cherished by his family, including his wife, Ardys Pemberton, of Storm Lake; his children, Larry (Kay Carol), of Dallas, Texas, William (Pat), of Osage Beach, Missouri, Gary (Jeanie), of Spring, Texas, Brenda (Gene) Amend, of Dallas, Texas, Carol (Bill) Shafer, of Olathe, Kansas, and Cheryl Gysbers, of Harrisburg, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Nancy (Glenn) Surber, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mary (Jeff) Timmer, of Sioux Center, Iowa; a step-daughter-in-law, Marsha Heinsohn, of Storm Lake, Iowa; eleven step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended family and friends.
