Phyllis L. Ingram
May 14, 1917 - May 02, 2012Storm Lake, Iowa
Phyllis Ingram, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died May 2, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Phyllis Lila Dubois was born May 14, 1917, in Douglas Township, Clay County, Iowa, the daughter of Alva S. and Katherine Lila (Fagen) Dubois. Growing up, she attended grade school and graduated from high school in Cornell, Iowa, in 1935. Next, she attended Buena Vista College, graduating in 1937 with a degree in Elementary Education. Phyllis taught in the elementary schools in Melvin, Truesdale, Cherokee, and Meriden, Iowa, retiring in 1974.
On September 2, 1939, Phyllis married Kenneth Ingram in Leesburg, Virginia. They were blessed with two children, Terry and Mike.
Phyllis taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school in Rembrandt at the Methodist Church, and in her later years, she was a member of Circle #4, Sunshine Circle-Nicole Epting. More recently, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where she participated in various women’s circles.
Phyllis used her cooking, among other ways, to express her love for her family. Some of her specialties included raspberry jam, a variety of cookies, and her sweet pickles. She loved traveling with her husband and finished their quest to visit all fifty states by going to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary in 1989. Phyllis treasured spending time with family. She was one of the great ladies of a nearly vanished generation, soft spoken, spiritual, and capable of unconditional love. She never spoke in anger, but always gently and lovingly. Phyllis will always be remembered as a woman of grace with a sterling character, who lived moderately, loved deeply, and was treasured by all.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Terry (Kathie) Ingram, of Loma Linda, California, and Michael (Marsha) Ingram, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Shannon (Paul) Breckenridge, of Auburn, California, Jayson (Jill) Ingram, of Alameda, California, Melanie (Steve) Haakinson and Matthew (Stephanie) Ingram, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Anneke (Nick) Valles, of Ithaca, New York; her great grandchildren: Grace and Claire Breckenridge, Jenna and Juliette Ingram, Ian, Ella, and Noah Haakinson, and Vince and Drew Ingram; as well as extended family and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Alva and Lila Dubois; her brother, Sherwin (Opal) Dubois; and her sisters: Mary (Glen) Graeber and Arlene (Hal) Hood.
Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m., May 06, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
