February 15, 1916 - May 5, 2012Harriet Danielson, age 96, of Albert City, Iowa, died on May 5, 2012, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Harriet Johanna Charlotte Danielson was born in Albert City to Emil Emanuel and Hulda Charlotte (Peterson) Danielson on February 15, 1916. She was baptized into the Christian faith on March 19, 1916, and confirmed at the Augustana Lutheran Church on May 31, 1931, which later became Our Savior’s Lutheran. Having grown up in Albert City, she graduated from Albert City High School. Harriet then attended and graduated from AIB Business College in Des Moines.
Harriet suffered a serious accident with a tractor and a plow at age 5, leaving her a partial amputee of one leg and part of her left arm and hand. She, however, never considered herself handicapped, and most acquaintances never knew of her childhood accident. In spite of her physical limitations, she loved life, had an infectious smile, and enjoyed many travel adventures. She made several trips domestically and abroad, touring Cuba before the Castro revolution, photographing Austria and Switzerland with her tiny Minox camera, and visiting her nephew and his family during their assignment in Venezuela.
Harriet began working as the Executive Office Manager for Superior Manufacturing in Albert City. She later moved to Des Moines where she lived and worked until her return to Albert City in August, 1999. She, then, lived at Pleasant View Home until her death.
A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Harriet enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines during her years there.
Harriet is survived by her nieces and nephews: Judy (Don) Thomson, of Golden Valley, Arizona, Joann (Bill) Soults, of Berlin, Maryland, Jim (Kathy) Swanson, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathryn (Doug) Jensen, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Duane Danielson, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Elaine (Jerry) Pepping, of Moline, Illinois; her great nieces and nephews; other extended family; and friends.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Jane Danielson and Evert and Ruby Danielson; and her sister and brother- in-law, Vivian and Everett Swanson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church with the family present. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given in Harriet’s memory to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Pleasant View Home Auxiliary.
