Arthur Nothwehr
August 7, 1915 - January 22, 2005

Arthur John Fred Nothwehr, the son of John and Doretta Sump Nothwehr, was born August 7, 1915, on the Nothwehr farm north of Yorktown. He spent his childhood years in Yorktown where he was baptized, confirmed, and educated at St. Paul's Lutheran School and Church. Following his schooling, Arthur began farming with his father.

Art married Luella Felten on February 23, 1938, at St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Peterson. Following their marriage, they started farming in Cherokee County, an occupation they pursued until his retirement in 1975, at which time they moved into Peterson. Art was an Archer Oil Dealer for many years.

A member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Peterson, he served on every church board. A trustee for Spring Township and a member of the Brooke Consolidated School Board as well as the Lion's Club and the Farm Bureau, Arthur was also recognized as a conservation award recipient. He liked to play cards and bowl.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Luella, of Wel Life Assisted Living, in Alta; his four children, Wanda, and her husband, Robert C. Donahoo, of Peterson, Lowell Nothwehr, of Aurelia, and Faye, and her husband, Dennis Capps, of San Marcos, California; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola, and her husband, Delbert Herzberg, of Clarinda; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Gerdts, of Clarinda, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Arthur Nothwehr were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at St. John's Church of Christ, rural Peterson with Pastor Robert Grupp and Rev. Charles Hall officiating. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery in Peterson.
