Wayne Cole, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died March 26, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Wayne Cole was born December 14, 1925, in Varina, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Edna (Clark) Cole.
Growing up, Wayne was baptized and confirmed. He attended school and graduated from Schaller High School in 1943. On December 11, 1943, he entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged on December 27, 1945.
On April 3, 1950, Wayne married Cleo Jean Schott in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were blessed with two daughters, Karn and Jan.
A member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake for fifty-one years, Wayne served as a Deacon for several of those years. A volunteer fireman for the Storm Lake Fire Department from 1962 – 1974, he worked at the Hatchery in Marathon and also the Paint Store in Storm Lake as a carpenter. He then worked at Inman Electric in Storm Lake before going to work for Iowa Electric as a meter reader from 1965-1988 when he retired.
Wayne loved the outdoors. He enjoyed yard work and small woodworking projects. He also treasured spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Karn J. Monson, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Jan (Joel) Thevenin, of Aurelia, Iowa; his grandchildren: Alison Monson (Tyler Simoens), Tim (Taryn) Monson, Darci Monson (Mike Walton), and Austin and Shaina Thevenin; his great grandchildren: Ryder Monson and Layla Simoens; and his step great grandchild, Kayden Howell; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Cole; his wife, Cleo Jean Cole; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m., March 28, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., March 29, 2012, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
