Richard D. Wessendorf, 77, of Sioux City, died Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center here in Sioux City.

Richard was born December 31, 1934, at Storm Lake, the son of George and Ruth (Morgan) Wessendorf. He grew up and attended school in Nemaha, graduating from Nemaha High School. Richard married Betty Lauer on June 9, 1957. They made their home in Fort Dodge before moving to the Sioux City area in 1971.

Dealing in used cars, Richard owned and operated Dick's Kar Korner in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He enjoyed Nascar racing, fishing, hunting, and collecting pens.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Sioux City; his sons, Randy (Jody) Wessendorf, of Sioux City, and Jeffrey (Kim) Wessendorf, of South Sioux City, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Brandon Wessendorf, of Sgt. Bluff, Kristi Wessendorf of Sioux City, and Richie Wessendorf, of Sioux City. Two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Thyan. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald (Sandy) Wessendorf, of Creighton, Nebraska, John (Kathy) Wessendorf, of Zumbrota, Minnesota; and a sister, Sue Wessendorf, of Schaller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda; a great-granddaughter, Taylen; a brother, Larry, and a sister, Janet.

A prayer Service was held on Monday, February 20, 2012, at the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with Rev. Harold Werley officiating. Condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .
