May 30, 1924 - February 18, 2012

Harold Alfred Peterson, age 87, of Alta, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center of Fort Dodge.

Harold Alfred Peterson was born May 30, 1924, to Alfred and Elsie (Partridge) Peterson. He graduated in 1942 from Alta High School. After high school, he joined the Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

On August 14, 1949, Harold married Beverly Munz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. They lived and farmed in the Alta area. Harold worked in the construction business for many years and built many houses in Alta.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching his chickens, and gathering eggs.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathy Fahr; his brother, LaVerne Peterson; and his sister, Darlene Phebus.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Peterson, of Alta; his children, Dan Peterson, of Alta, Vicky (Jeff) Lower, of Carroll, Scott (Peg) Peterson, of Ogden, Cindy (Joe) Scheuring, of Defiance, Terry (Roxanne) Peterson, of Alta, and Rick Peterson, also of Alta; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Hawke; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joe and Jeanette Wagner; a sister-in-law, Janice Peterson; a brother-in-law, John Phebus; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Alta. Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery of Alta with military rites conduct by the Alta VFW Post # 6172. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
